Paramita Debbarman: Blog - It started as a small thought . . .

It started as a small thought - a thought of helping some poor families by sponsoring two weeks of food (rice, cereals, oil, salt, some vegetables). We decided that a remote village would be more appropriate compared to a city. Remote villages, where basic amenities are minimal, employment is scarce and where the pandemic has also made an impact.

We decided that instead of buying at a wholesale rebate from the city and bearing transportation expenses, why not buy from the local market near the village itself. Although it might be slightly expensive, those shops there will get some business and earn a small profit because we are buying from them. During these trying times, those shop owners are also impacted.

We contacted the local authorities of the village area to identify those families. And asked the local leadership of the village to be there when the food packets are distributed. That way, the residents of the village will also develop greater trust and respect for their local leadership.

As we started working out the details for this small activity, we realized that we were impacting many lives - not just the sustenance of these poor families, but also the local business/shops, the local leaders, and a name and a reputation for the one who front ends this noble task.

And I smile and thank God - nothing is too small when our intentions are big. A small seed has tremendous potential. The seed is sown. The plant, fruits, more seeds, and more trees are on the way.

Truly, this is Kingdom of Heaven on earth.

Life is meaningful and purposeful.
