Cornerstone - Give your thoughts some second thought

March 30th, 2021

Effective communication.

I often get this question from my clients - how can I become more effective in my communication? Do I need to learn new words, new vocabulary, to become more effective in my communication.

While it's a good habit to learn new words and increase your vocabulary, at the same time we need to be mindful if the words that we are speaking, are they able to communicate and express what we want to communicate?

If I come to your house and i just say I'm thirsty, what are you going to say? What are you going to do? You might ask me 'What do you what would you like to drink?' or you might even ask me 'Would you like some tea or some coffee?' or you might ask me 'Would you want some water? room temperature or cold water?'

I did not ask you for a drink. I just said 'I am thirsty' but you understood my need. You were able to connect with me. That's effective communication.

Effective communication is not about using big and fancy words but effective communication is the ability to express yourself - to connect with the other person and communicate, and in the whole process words can be different or words can be very less.

That's effective communication.
